Abstract
The major focus of this paper is on the relationship of Italian and French Canadians in Quebec after the Second World War and especially after 1960 with the rise of a new French Canadian nationalism in the province. The author discusses the various factors leading to the development of economic stability within the Italian immigrant community in Quebec (particularly in Montreal) and the subsequent disruption to the community and general reaction of Italian Canadians to the imposition of language laws by the Quebec government regarding the teaching of French as the primary language in the school system.
