AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
In the spring of 1980 a Sealaska Elders' Conference was held in Sitka, Alaska, sponsored by the Sealaska Corporation's Board of Directors. This conference, the first of its kind in which a traditional language forum from all areas of the region was assembled, was attended by forty elders of the Tlingit tribe. Their speeches on the first evening of the conference, dealing with the overriding theme of preserving the Tlingit culture for future generations, make up the bulk of this source.
