AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
English translations of some of the texts in the New York Public Library Aleut manuscript collection. It includes two Aleut love songs originally recorded by Veniaminov and three folk tales recorded and translated by Jochelson. The author's introduction gives a description of the Library's collection which consists primarily of Jochelson's recordings; this introduction is indexed for TEXTS (539) with the texts. A note on Aleut speech sounds by Roman Jakobson and a bibliography are included. Except for a few general statements in Mr. Jakobson's note, these are not included.
