Abstract
This is the first article in a study of the Aleutian Islands published by the Smithsonian Institution. It is a short summary of available information on the geography, history, and material culture of the Aleut, and as such, is useful. The illustrations, which include official government photographs and reprints from early sources are not included here. Some geographical and historical data are not included. The bibliography included here, pp. 72-74, lists also the reference material used for 26: Clark and 27: Walker, which are included under the same Smithsonian binding.
