Abstract
Capt. Cook visited Unalaska about 20 years after the Russians started to exploit the Aleutian Islands as a source of furs. During his visit, the Russians evidently tried to hide from him their subjugation of the Aleuts. Cook has included most maps and illustrations in a separate volume (Vol. IV). Only those text passages and illustrations which pertain to the Aleuts are included. Since Cook only visited Unalaska, his observations relate to the Aleuts of Unalaska.
