Abstract
This photo essay portrays the Hasidim of Brooklyn, New York in a sincere, intimate fashion, showing visually the manner in which they work, play, study, and pray in their environment. As a general background to this essay, Strom presents an introductory chapter on the cultural history of the Hasidim in Europe from approximately the tenth to the mid-twentieth centuries including historical data on the Belz, Bobover, Ger, Lubavitch, Satmar, Spinka, and Stolin subgroups (or courts).
