America's Little Italies: past, present and future
their languages, literature, and lives: proceedings of the 20th Annual Conference of the American Italian Historical Association, Chicago, Illinois, November 11-13, 1987 • Staten Island, New York • Published In 1990 • Pages: 169-184
By: Krase, Jerome.
AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
Krase's focus in this essay is on the Italian American neighborhood as a "stereotypical" phenomenon. The author demonstrates how the way people think of themselves (their self image) affects the places in which they live; "…and conversely - how the way people define their neighborhood has an effect on their own self conception" (p. 170). Krase's analysis of data relevant to the above hypotheses - often theoretical in nature - constitutes the major bulk of this document.
