Hewittown, New Jersey is the focus of Chiacchio's research reported in this article. The study attempts "to understand the current socialization pattern of the Italian-American third and fourth generation, and to ascertain how Hewittowners adapt to their environment, this research investigates the transformation of socialization and the process of intergenerational continuity. The people's folk system is examined to determine how Hewittowners perceive and interpret the social relationship in which they are involved" (pp. 273-274). Topics discussed in this paper are Chiacchio's methodology, ethnicity, and group orientation.
