Abstract
This document presents an analytical interpretation of the Mexican folkgame called 'La Vieja Inés' (the old woman Ines) or 'La Virgen Iné s (the virgin Ines), as played by girls in the Texas communities of Loreto and San Anselmo (both pseudonyms). The author describes the settings, the performers, and the performance of the game and suggests'…an enculturating function for this folkgame -- a function affecting language, kinship, and sex roles in Mexican working-class culture' (p. 88).
