Abstract
This is the basic synthetic work on the Wolof by a professional anthropologist. Sections are included on demography, history, language, physical environment, economics, socio-political organization, the life cycle, religion, and so on. An excellent bibliography is included. A short description is included of the Lebu, a group of 36,000 (as of 1949) who split off from the Wolof between 1790 and 1810.
