Abstract
This is a brief outline of important events and political personalities in Darfur from the origin and consolidation of the Fur Sultanate in the seventeenth century to its incorporation into Anglo-Egyptian Sudan at the turn of the twentieth century. Also discussed are political processes during the early twentieth century as the colonial government replaced traditional elites with centrally appointed military and civilian officials.
