Abstract
This book seeks to describe and analyze the social and economic organization of the Basseri of Fars province (Iran) in terms of a general ecological perspective. The focus is on the processes through which the Basseri organize nomadic herding and relate to one another as members of different households, herding units, camps, lineages (oulads), and tribal sections (tira). The book is based on ethnographic materials collected while the author was living with the Darbar tribal section of Basseri for seven months. The author also participated in this groups dramatic seasonal movements across different agro-ecological zones.
