AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This report on Zulu beadwork, in the Mtunzini District represents the first phase of a larger project aimed at inventorying and comparing Zulu beadwork throughout the Zulu area. The author interviewed a number of Zulu beadworkers, especially concerning articles of beadwork he purchased from them. Much Zulu beadwork is color coded to convey messages and a portion of the article is devoted to a discussion of color symbolism and message interpretation. The bulk of the article is devoted to descriptions of beaded articles which the author has classified according to the part of the body on which the article is worn.
