Abstract
This overview of the economic significance of livestock production in Ovambo society, although lacking reliable household-level data on livestock ownership, identifies the different objectives and values pursued by persons attempting to increase their wealth in domestic animals such as cattle, goats and donkeys. The author also considers other income-generating activities, particularly labor migration, crop cultivation, and wage labor in towns and military camps.
