Abstract
This article presents Ila songs recorded by a Methodist missionary between 1906 and 1934. The songs are grouped according to the contexts in which they were sung. Side-by-side translations of the lyrics into English are presented, with notes and background material. Parallels in other cultures in Africa and elsewhere are highlighted.
