Abstract
After an absence of thirty years, Smith (see Smith and Dale 1920) returned for a brief visit to Ila territory. In the first part of this article he describes the changes that had taken place in Ila society during the intervening years as a result of external influences. In the second part, he presents some new material on sib and lineage composition.
