This is the first of two volumes, published separately in eHRAF. The set is the basic source on the Ila, written by Smith, a missionary, and Dale, a government administrator. The first part of this volume covers the history and physical anthropology of the group. The second part goes into the economic life, material culture, and medicine of the Ila. The third part deals with the various aspects of social organization and law.
