By: Lotar, L..

Abstract
Lotar in this short article gives a brief account of the beginnings of the ivory trade in Azande territory and analyzes the reasons for the chief's monopoly of the traffic. In the second section, he describes the traditional Zande interpretation of property and property ownership and inheritance, demonstrating at the same time, the position of the chief vis-a-vis the traditional law.
