By: Turnbull, Colin M..

Abstract
This work discusses some of the major aspects of Mbuti ethnography and the sanctuary furnished them by the Ituri forest. Turnbull describes Mbuti existence under colonialism, and their symbiotic relationship with the Bantu villagers who have wholly different customs, values and cultural adaptations. Turnbull then turns to the years of the war of independence in Zaire, and its effects on the Mbuti world, concluding with a discussion of the cultural changes taking place in Mbuti society following independence.
