Abstract
This document discusses the models and conceptual frameworks that shaped the works of anthropologists and ecologists involved in the South Turkana Ecosystem Project (STEP). In addition to involving researchers from several disciplines, the document shows that this project employed a theoretical perspective that is distinctly ecological and adaptational.
