American anthropologist • 61 (6) • Published In 1959 • Pages: 965-990
By: LeVine, Robert Alan.
Abstract
Among the Gusii of southwestern Kenya, the high frequency of rape is a major social problem and has been a source of concern to Gusii chiefs and administrators for many years. In this study LeVine inquires into the causes of that situation and attempts to formulate some general hypotheses concerning the control of sexual behavior not only among the Gusii but in human societies in general.
