This article analyzes the career histories of a sample of chiefs under the Buganda Government (county, sub-county and parish chiefs). Career data is correlated with information on kinship and land tenure. This is summarized in eight tables at the end of the chapter. The analysis of original material is preceded by a discussion of the traditional political system and changes introduced by the British Administration (see especially the chart on pp. 56-57).
