Sudan notes and record19 • Published In 1936 • Pages: 233-269

By: Evans-Pritchard, E. E. (Edward Evan).

Abstract
This is a description of the functions of the age-set system in Nuer life. Particular emphasis is placed upon the influence of age-sets on kinship ties and on the regulation of marriage. Information on initiation, significance of cattle, raids on the Dinka, and sexual activities and restrictions is also included. Evans-Pritchard makes the point that the Nuer age-set system is an egalitarian type of social integration.
