Abstract
This brief article deals with the manifestations in a specific locale of Tiv conceptions of health, disease, and sorcery, and of related therapeutic practices and practitioners. At the crux of these matters is a concept of fundamental importance in Tiv culture, that of AKOMBO. This is a complex notion incorporating a belief in magical forces as one of its essential facets. For purposes of clarification, it may be useful if in conjunction with this article one also reads a more general analysis of the AKOMBO concept such as that contained in 19: Bohannan and Bohannan, pp. 85-90, this file.
