AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This article discusses the knowledge and function of kinship genealogy in Tiv society. Bohannon demonstrates that the belief in the existence of true genealogies together with the possibility of construing such genealogies according to existing circumstances provide the Tiv with opportunities for social changes while maintaining a doctrine of social permanence.
