Abstract
This article is a general study of marriage among the Akans, covering such aspects as polygamy, betrothal, family obligations, status, divorce, and death. The Afro-European marriage and its disadvantages are explored. Amoo concludes with an analysis of the economic, educational, and social disadvantages of the present system and suggested reforms.
