Abstract
This source provides an in-depth study of Basque nationalism based on the available literature on the subject and the author's own field work in the Basque region in the summer of 1971. Silva discusses the emergence of Basque nationalism in a chronological sequence paying particular attention to the socio-economic and cultural conditions underlying this development. In the final two chapters of this work the various components of Basque nationalism are analyzed and an attempt made to relate these factors to the theoretical issues regarding the development of nationalism discussed in the first chapter of this work (p. 19).
