AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is a study of the changing pattern of reindeer management methods in the mountain Saami village of Tuorpon, Jokkmokk district, Sweden. Beach'spurpose is to uncover the reasons for and the direction of herding-form evolution as illustrated in Tuorpon. The document is divided into an introduction and three major parts. Part I contains a diachronic micro-analysis of Tuorpon herd management. Part II departs from the micro-analysis village approach and discusses Saamish- Swedish relations as well as the Swedish national herding program in general. In part III Beachreturns to a study of Tuorpon village, bringing together the data presented in parts I and II to explain the most recent restructuring of herding-group organization and alteration in herding form in Tuorpon (pp. 9-10).
