AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This image collection was produced during more than half a century of research by Joel Martin Halpern and his former wife, Barbara Kerewsky-Halpern, in the village of Orašac and its surrounding area in the central šumadija region of the now independent Serbia. The currently available photographs represent episodes of fieldwork between 1953 and 1986, documenting many changes during that period, particularly in architecture, household furnishings, dress, agricultural tools, and commerce. The participation of the Halperns and their children in community life also is amply depicted.
