Women, work, and power in modern Yugoslavia
Sexual stratification : a cross-cultural view • New York • Published In 1977 • Pages: 215-244

AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This paper presents an economic and political analysis of the role of women in Yugoslavia as of the mid 1960s. The article focuses on women in the transition stage '…from peasant to urban life and on the effects of women's employment in public economic institutions upon their participation in the power structure of both domestic and public life ' (p. 216). Despite the fact that much of the material in this document deals with Yugoslavia as a whole, the author does present some very useful data on the status and role of Serbian women in society which she obtained from interviews made in the Serbian industrialized city of Uzice (Titovo Uzice).
