AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This booklet introduces the general reader to the religious practices of the Serbs. French describes the architecture of the Serbian churches; the church services; special religious holidays, such as Easter and Christmas; marriage and death ceremonies; and celebration of the Slava or saint's days. This is followed by a discussion the Yugoslav Patriarchate and its history, and the Serbian clergy and their part in the everyday life of the people. The author tells the story of the Serbian national saint, St. Sava, and his part in the establishment of the allegiance of the Serbian Church to the East rather than to the West.
