Abstract
This is ethnography of the Nicobar Islands is by the British government official, Edward Horace Mann, who conducted several tours of duty there between 1871 and 1875, with additional trips in 1879, 1885, 1888, and 1894. The author discusses the geography, history (including origins), and demography of the Islands, but mostly focuses on biological anthropology: specific topics covered include physical descriptions, anthropometry down to length of fingers, sensory acuity, pulse and respiration rates, posture, gait, agility, endurance, attitudes towards labor, and pathologies.
