Abstract
This source is concerned with sociocultural change among the Badagas during the past 150 years, with a focus on the period from 1913 to 1963. The topics examined include the geographical, historical, and ethnic setting of Badaga society, social structure (particularly the clan and phratry system), marriage regulation, religious beliefs and sects, and factionalism. The discussion of sociocultural change in the 20th century examines Badaga economy, legal system, marriage patterns and religion and the emergence of new political factions and social antagonisms.
