This is a study of the distribution of land, or [n]pattas[/n], to Kol tribal people in Chitrakoot district, Uttar Pradesh, India. A local civil society organization, called the Akhil Bharatiya Samaj Sewa Sansthan (ABSSS), played an important role in implementing the government's program in providing land to the poor and disadvantaged individuals in the society. This article focuses on the role of the ABSSS and its contribution to carrying out this government program.
