Abstract
This paper was originally given as a lecture by Professor Opler in a beginning course in Anthropology. The Indian village described, Senapur, is the home and family seat of Rudra Datt Singh, co-author of this paper. After a brief general description of the village, there is a comprehensive survey of the social and economic structure of the village life. The information centers largely on an account of the various castes—their traditions, economic role, rank, etc.
