AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This document describes and analyzes some aspects of the socio-political organization, and economy of the Pashtun nomads of Northwest Afghanistan, a group belonging to several clans of the Durrani or 'western' Pashtuns who migrated into the area toward the end of the 19th century. This region, formerly called Gharjistan, is located between the Band-e Turkestan Range and the Hari Rud River in the provinces of Badghis and Ghor. Given particular attention in this source are the effects of the pastoral economy on various facets of the society - e. g., the property system, social and political structure, and warfare. In addition to the above, the source also contains information on geography, cultural history, and marriage.
