Abstract
This is a detailed economic report on a village where nearly ninety percent of the inhabitants are involved in farming. A third of the farmers own their land and two-thirds rent; of the latter four-fifths live in neighboring villages. There are two growing seasons and three types of plots based on source of water (rainfall-dependent, well-irrigated, canal irrigated). The major crops are wheat, rice, chickpeas, various fodder crops, cotton and sugarcane. Other professions or castes found in the village include carpenter, blacksmith, potter, barber, bard, priest, water-carrier, washerman, and sweeper.
