This is a short report on some data from a field study in a village near Rangoon in 1950, done by an anthropologist in connection with the Cornell University Southeast Asia Program. It was intended to do a full scale field study of a 'representative' Burmese rural community, but political disorders in the country interfered and a study of less depth, in a village close to the capital had to be substituted. This, however, fitted in with the larger interest of the Cornell project in urban influences, which were also investigated by the author. The data here presented are a selection from the author's material dealing with social groups, religion - particularly major ceremonies - and livelihood. There are many concrete behavioral details.
