Abstract
This source, which deals with Senoi Semai of West Malaysia, describes the various ways in which a number of character traits which the Senoi believe are attributed to them by non-Senoi are manipulated by them in their relationships with their rural Malay neighbors to give an outward appearance of general acceptance, yet at the same allowing them to withhold any deeper form of relationship. The foundation for this type of analysis is based on Goffman's notions of human interactions.
