Abstract
Compiled by the author in conjunction with members of the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress, this study presents a broad overview of Vietnamese ethnography from its early history (ca. 2879 B.C.) to approximately 1989, with a strong emphasis on the period of 1975-1989 during which time Vietnam, as a newly reunified nation struggled to develop a postwqr identity. Major ethnographic topics discussed in this work are early culture history, Vietnamese society and its environment, the economy, government and politics, and national security. A list of communitst party leaders in the 1980s is presented in Appendix B, p. 325 ff.
