Abstract
This article discusses the long term effects of Chinese culture and Neo-Confucian philosophy on the development of Vietnamese social organization particularly from the mid-seventeenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries. Much emphasis in this study is placed on the influence of the National Penal Code of the Le dynasty (1428-1788), the Le Code, on social organization in Vietnam.
