A tale of two temples: communities and their wats
Anthropology and community in Cambodia : reflections on the work of May Ebihara, edited John A Marston • (70) • Published In 2011 • Pages: 105-130

Abstract
This document revisits May Ebihara's earlier argument on links between Cambodian local communities and their wats (or temples). It argues that Ebihara's view of village temples as "a major social center" of village life remains mostly correct but this should not imply a one-to-one correspondence btween village and temple community. The discussion draws on ethnographic and historical information from two residence-based and temple-based communities.
