AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This document discusses gender and the status of elderly women in a Cambodian village. It shows that elderly women who were mothers to influential men in the village played critical roles in decision making including the author's (anthropologist May Ebihara) own acceptance and subsequent experiencs in the village. The author built on this observation to argue that the active role of these elderly women functioned as check on the power of men in local politics.
