Brodrick gives impressions of the people and the countryside, descriptions of ceremonies, comments on French colonial policy, and a summary of Cambodian history. His main interest is in describing Khmer monuments and their archaeological significance, and tracing the derivations of Buddhist symbols and religious traditions. The facts and theories presented are largely derived from other works.
