Abstract
This is an article on Uyghur identity from the perspective of an elite Uyghur scholar, who examines elements of Uyghur history and culture—including language, literature, art, music and religion—to weave together a "Great Tradition" of Uyghur civilization. Included are samples of the different scripts used by Uyghurs since Medieval times.
