By: Jankowiak, William R..

AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This study is about the behavior of urban dwellers in the capital city of Huhhot. According to Jankowiak, Huhhot urban culture is shared between Han and Mongols. Therefore he does not distinguish between the two, although in an early chapter he discusses ethnic relations. Much of his information is garnered from particpant observation and informal interviews. It is an example of thick description at its best and conveys a rich and personal cultural behavior. Some of the behavior Jankowiak looks at are public quarrels and how they are mediated, sexual relationships, familial relationships, and funeral rites.
