AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This volume, written by T. Hoshino, an official of the Bank of Chosen, was issued in commemoration of the dicennial of the bank. A large part of the book is hence colored by the intent of the Bank to show favourable economic conditions in Manchuria. These sections have not been included. However, there is also valuable information on Manchurian agriculture, mining, forestry, fishing, manufacturing, trade and commerce. A very clear and concise discussion of the currency and banking history of Manchuria and Chosen is given. Wherever possible, the text is amplified with the best available data on industry and trade. The emphasis in this source may therefore be said to be primarily on contemporary developments, cultural materials of a broader nature being intended only by the author as 'background understanding.
