AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is a well-organized account of the Japanese-created state of 'Manchukuo' (1931-1945), with a concluding chapter of the post-World War II settlements and events up to 1947. It is based solely on Western language sources, mostly secondary. The author has placed developments in Manchuria within the larger context of Eastern Asia. The conflict of interests among Japan, China, and Russia, and the dominant role palyed by Japan behind the façade of 'Independent Manchukuo' are particularly well-delineated.
