AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This book deals with the efforts of China, Japan, and Russia to seize and colonize Manchuria and/or Mongolia. Japan's conquest of Manchuria in 1931 is discussed in the two final chapters which were written after the rest of the book had been completed. Lattimore traveled extensively in Manchuria and is a world expert on the area. Most of the book is concerned with Chinese-Manchurian relations. There is little information on the native tribes.
