Intergenerational transmission of family property and family management in urban China

China quarterly (204)Published In 2010 • Pages: 960-979

By: Wang, Danning.

Abstract
This article discusses family organization in suburban China. The author argues that despite the changes in China's society due to modernization and collectivization, the family remained an important political and economic unit. Changing economic conditions that saw rising costs in the housing market and rising unemployment contributed to this. She also argues that filial piety will persist as long as young couples need access to housing and jobs through their parents.
